Our innovative anti-tamper key and keyway have been designed by world-class engineers at Safehinge Primera specifically for mental health hospitals to reduce emergency access time and minimise keyway blocking. The Lifeline keyway is used on a number of our products and has also been introduced by other mental health and anti-ligature product providers.
Lifeline Key has been designed to ensure safety and help improve mental health hospital procedures. Staff only need one key to operate a range of safety equipment within a mental health inpatient unit, like the vision panel, anti-barricade door stop, emergency override lockset, and anti-ligature window handles.
The keyway is automatically closed off when the Lifeline key is removed from the lock - meaning nothing can be jammed and making the key system tamper-proof. It's also patented, meaning it's only available from approved providers to ensure only authorised clinical professionals can access keys.
During observations, clinical staff can use their Lifeline key to operate the vision panel on the bedroom door to provide clinical observation to their patients, ensuring they are safe and well, but at the same time, no one else has access to the panel, ensuring patients’ privacy and dignity.
We know it’s important to reduce unauthorised use of vision panels, for example, by using a standard square drive key.
That's why we developed a tamper-resistant keyway for the vision panel for improved privacy and safety.
If the clinical team has been alerted to an emergency, e.i. Door barricade, they can use the same Lifeline key to activate the emergency lever on the Electronic Lockset to gain immediate access.
Reducing restrictive practices and empowering patients, Electronic Lockset provides patient independence by giving them access to their own bedroom, and the built-in mechanical override system ensures that clinical staff can access the room in under 5 seconds in case of an emergency with no extra tools required.
In the most common door barricade scenario, when there is a person or an object leaning on the door, clinical staff can also use the Lifeline key to release the anti-barricade door stop, which collapses into the door frame and allows the door to open inwards while operating clinical staff is position safety to the side of the door - providing quick emergency access.

Unifying door components with our range of window handles increases safety and further reduces the need for staff to carry multiple keys.
As well as offering anti-tamper fixings, rounded corners and chamfered edged back-lates, our window handles are robust and designed to withstand day-to-day use.
Manufactured from die-cast zinc and solid steel plate, they're finished in satin stainless steel and can also be RAL powder-coated to match any design scheme.
Our patented tamper-proof key has been deployed by other mental health & anti-ligature product providers to allow for further ease of operations within mental healthcare units with only one key to carry for clinical staff.
Other mental health products on the market that use our lifeline tamper-resistant key currently include windows and inside-the-room storage units.
