London Borough of Barking & Dagenham
Before using Safehinge products, London Borough of Barking & Dagenham were fed up with plastic finger guards, which broke frequently, looked unsightly and revealed the original hazard when cracked.
To solve the durability issues with plastic finger guards, the contractor recommended rubber and roller blind finger guards. However, neither provides adequate finger protection as fingers can still push into the hinge reveal gap and become trapped. Have you ever tried the “pencil test” on a rubber or roller finger guard?
We worked closely with their education services and design team to understand their problems and helped them create a generic specification for their Employer’s Requirements.
Manchester City Council
With tight budgets and facilities at capacity, Manchester City Council focused on extending and upgrading schools, rather than new builds.
At the combined Ashgate SEN and Crossacres Primary School, door safety had to be cost-effective without compromising quality. We used our integral finger guard for all new doors, and for refurbished areas, our clever finger-ejecting guard was the perfect solution, providing visual consistency throughout.
Acknowledging the importance of life cost savings, the council’s education department said, “We decided to use the integral finger guard on a spend-to-save basis across all new primary and special needs schools.”
