Our baby turns 18 - and we’re welcoming our new CEO!

by Philip Ross

It’s been 18 years since Martin Izod, and I set up Safehinge, working from his dad’s kitchen table.

During this time, the business has grown in many different directions from our humble roots designing out the risk of kids trapping their fingers in doors at schools to moving into mental health product design, and joining forces with Primera, becoming Safehinge Primera. This step brought us to designing the safest bathroom privacy doors and anti-barricade bedroom doorsets in the market.

The safety and well-being of staff and patients never escapes us. It is what matters most. It is at the heart of what we do - protecting people during their most vulnerable times.

It’s what’s taken us beyond the UK, working with teams around the world to tackle the same challenges in different settings. It’s what has driven us to develop new technology that gives clinicians the insights they need to intervene earlier, deliver better care, and ultimately save lives.

Our business has matured, formally reaching adulthood.  It’s a natural moment to pause and reflect on what the next chapter looks like, including who leads Safehinge Primera - all with a focus on what is best for the people we serve.

With this view in mind, I’m thrilled to introduce Dave Stewart as our new CEO. Dave has worked in manufacturing, product, and technology businesses. He’s led international teams, big and small, while travelling extensively to meet the demands of global customers. His wealth of experience will help us keep up with growing demand and ensure we’re getting things right first time for our customers.

This will also allow me more time to do what I love most, spending time with our customers, especially on the front line of mental health care design, to listen and understand the big challenges you’re facing - capturing these insights to help us make further improvements to our products, how we deliver these to you, and the support you need to keep your focus on patients and their care.

We’re excited for this next chapter, and I hope you are too.

Best,

Phil, Martin, and Dave
